Editor-in-Chief of PC Gamer magazine, Logan Decker, joins us on this edition of the Game Central Podcast. In part 1, we discuss the games we’ve been playing, then focus on Logan and PC Gamer magazine – his gaming history, the editorial foundations to PC Gamer magazine, the state of PC gaming print journalism with the web and print journalism debacle, and the nature of the job itself. Part 2 brings “Truthiness or Falsity,” our plea for Heavy Rain to come to PC, and a discussion on properly judging single-player games without fully completing them.

The conversation about ads and profit reminds me of a twitter argument a while ago about ad blocking on websites. I personally didn’t see it as a source of income, which was pretty ignorant of me, but the little enlightenment does shed some light on why it’s done.

On the topic of decisions with certain partners and stuff, I can sort of feel for Logan, though on a considerably smaller scale. Being the oldest, most senior student work at my job, I sometimes have to make an uncomfortable decision about little things that should seem trivial but aren’t when the managers aren’t around and I usually feel like a douche when it’s said and done. It’s a little worst when you have to do it to people you see daily and regularly.

At thhis point, I have forgotten what the podcast was about…Damn.

It’s always the little things that make the most emotional tidal waves. It does indeed suck. Hated that part about the USAF.

Bad news on forgetting what the podcast is about: there’s a pop-quiz coming up in 5 minutes. Bummer.

  2. Andrew W.

Best podcast I have ever listened to.

  3. KrazIIvan

I agree with Andrew W, that was the best podcast. Are you guys going to try and get Dan S on? I don’t know if he would be up to it, but Sammy and him could argue about shit for hours. The both fill that same type of role(masterdebater). It was great to hear Logan uncensored. I was listening to an old PCG podcast and Chris Comiskey aka Havoc06 called in and ask why they censored the podcast, to which Logan replied ” %$#@ YOU!”. Gary is the worst at cursing, that dudes a fucking sailor.

Oh shiiiit. Yeah that was not one of my prouder moments. Logan actually had no idea that was me until I spilled my guts after we were done recording this episode. After my confession, there was like, 7 minutes of awkward silence. Then Keenan hopped a plane to San Fransisco and made out profusely with Logan just to spite me. True story! Those wacky kids.

  4. Exactly. We love PC gaming because it’s wide open, anything can happen. Things did happen. Hopefully they will continue to happen, as long as PC gaming manages to avoid being shoved into a box of someone else’s design.

  5. If you liked the podcast and want even more Logan — and 4 out of 5 dentists do — you can follow @arocklegend on Twitter (but I’m still closing the bathroom door when I go).

You can also become a fan of PC Gamer on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/pcgamermagazine because we talked BioWare into letting us put Subject Zero on the cover flipping everybody off (leading to some interesting discussions with our circulation department).

    Logan

ps Keenan was a terrific kisser.

Dude! You forgot to mention: free kitten* with every new PCG subscription!

(*Severe pet-care neglect due to excess gaming not included.)

  6. Way to antagonize the guest and slam the new guy Chris. Of course I’m one to talk given the rage filled rants I’ve triggered in the vent server.

Interesting talk about art and games. I kinda agree with Logan’s assessment about it in a way, but I kinda like the serious, artsy stuff too. But if it isn’t amusing us the game has failed.

Still don’t know if I want to pick up PCG though. I mean seriously, why would I want to get well written and through-out reviews, articles and editorial pieces specifically geared to PC gaming when I could just read Joystiq and Kotaku? We all know how much they love PC gaming.
