The calm before the storm on this week’s Game Central Podcast: the games we’ve been playing, the news of the world, “Truthiness or Falsity,” and “Come Out on PC, Damnit!”
I actually kind of hope more super-hero games are made (you can probably tell by the name). I have yet to play Batman, but there have been some good if not great super-hero games that WEREN’T movie tie-ins (Ultimate Spider-Man, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, Lego Batman, X-Men Legends, and the non-comics related Champions Online, City of Heroes, and Freedom Force) If more super-hero games are made, I hope they go with lesser known, but still big name characters like The Flash, Green Lantern, etc.
1. SF4
it actually runs pretty well on low end hardware.
http://www.wegame.com/forums/General-Gaming-Discussion/Weclock_vs_Zorlac_High_low_graphics_comparison_SF4/
I really think the PC version is the best version
http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2009/jun/29/sven-pc-version-sf4-best-lot/
So does Chris Svensson. he says “I hope that PC enthusiasts take a shine to it and support it. It deserves it.”
so go and get yourself a PC copy, you can find it for $20.
I have it on PC myself, I play with a Xbox 360 game pad. I have been trying to hack together an arcade stick and have a buddy who bought the parts.
Arcade stick is how you will want to play this game.
Also, Chris, don’t be upset, you will get past Roofies eventually, and once you do it is sooo satisfying, and then you’ll come across Seth, THAT CHEATING FUCKING BASTARD. He’s actually harder on Easy than he is on Normal, it’s fucking ridiculous.
Also, if you wanted to write to Capcom, you would not need to write it in Japanese, you’d probably want to write to Chris, who has been a key player in getting many games re-released here in America.
2. Wii emulation
that’s a Wii emulator for you, it plays games at higher resolution than an actual Wii (because lets face it, your computer does have better hardware than a Wii).
3. Voice Acting in Zeno Clash
it’s not as bad as Sammy says, infact I didn’t have a problem with it at all. But that’s just because I sort of accepted that people would react differently in this world that is so different from ours.
4. Lucidity
it’s completely fucking broken. It’s the most frustrating game. I load it up, and it says “Please install Windows XP service Pack 3.”
I’m on Vista. FUCK THIS GAME!!!!
5.Batman Arkham Asylum: as you’re all probably aware, a sequel has been announced, and I don’t think it’s going to be as good as the first, because it’s trying to take on an open area. Some listener of the joystiq podcast wrote them with an idea for a sequel, that it breaks my heart every time I realize “oh shit, that was just some idiot talking about it, rather than someone who had anything to do with the game.” but I’ll share that story with you as well.
Aliens take over The Watchtower (the Justice League’s space headquarters) and capture all of the super heroes and steal their powers. But they leave Batman (and a few other powerless heroes) alone, because he has no super Powers. Your goal is to enter The Watchtower, defeat the aliens, and rescue your super powered friends.
Why is this a better idea than “Arkhamhasmoved.com?” because it hits a few key elements that Batman Arkham Asylum had.
I. Closed Area
In Arkham Asylum, it makes sense that areas are typically small and that you have very limited movement (i.e. no open world map like Spiderman 2 http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps2/spiderman2 80 Metacritic score). Keeping the action limited to The Watchtower is going to continue this thread, while moving it into Gotham is going to make you feel much more restricted because there you’ll be on a city block and you only have a few yards of movement area (not counting verticle space).
II. Closed storyline
You’re only concerned with what’s going on, on Arkham island. Opening it up to an entire city is really going to have the opportunity to open up too many different story arcs. Staying away from that, without feeling like you’re enclosed in some weird world closed off from Gotham is going to be difficult.
III. Compact Experience
opening up to the rest of Gotham is going to give you a longer game, if they cannot keep the storyline closed or the area closed, which means you’ll no longer have a compact experience which you can experience in a short amount of time.
IV. Lack of Characters
I guess they could see about using whatever characters weren’t in Arkham Asylum, other than the obvious ones (don’t spoil it), but it showed some of the best Characters already in AA, maybe they would have pulled some bullshit “oh they broke out” line, but if they use Mr. Freeze, Clayface, or Poison Ivy, I’m going to be pretty pissed.
And this is why, I feel the new Arkham Asylum is going to suck balls.
6. More expensive games means better quality?
I don’t necessarily want better quality overall for those type of things (in comparison to what they are, they’re pretty fucking good quality), but I’d be willing to spend more to get a discounted price on all 4 mediums (PS3, Wii, Xbox 360, and PC) in one box. They need to be in a box.
7. Voice acting being a Joke
It’s not a joke, look at Batman Arkham Asylum, look at Dragon Age, they are fucking brilliant. You assholes never talk about Dragon Age, probably because none of you have it, but SERIOUSLY MOTHER FUCKERS GET DRAGON AGE OR GET OFF MY GODDAMN PC GAMING WORLD.
Also, for Batman: “Several voice actors reprise their roles from the DC Animated Universe TV shows. In particular, Batman is voiced by Kevin Conroy,[11] the Joker by Mark Hamill,[19] and Harley Quinn by Arleen Sorkin,[11] who voiced these parts in Batman: The Animated Series. Additionally, veteran voice actors Steven Blum and Tom Kane provide voice work for Killer Croc and Commissioner Gordon, respectively.[13]”

I did some voice acting for an Xbox Live Indie Game. My girlfriend worked on it too, and we went out of our way to make it Cheesy.

(I’ve got blocks of steel!)
8. Dante’s Inferno
Fuck you Chris, I read the book and this game is a total bastardization of it. The book is fucking brilliant, DI isn’t something I’d wipe my shoes on.
Visual Motifs: They’d have to do it that way, because that’s how the book was, go read the book Chris, you fucking douchebag.
9. God Of War
It should be able to come on PC, look at many other Sony games on PC.. Everquest, Free Realms, Planetside..
Seriously, you guys should not let me on the Podcast, because I am a fucking asshole and will tell you that you’re wrong every two seconds. If you want to let me on, I will go on, but you will probably kick me because I will be telling you that you’re fucking wrong every two seconds.
But, if you want your podcast to be more filled with drama and strife, go right ahead, invite me. I’ll be happy to tell you that you’re all fucking wrong.
Everquest, Free Realms, and Planetside were not made by Sony per se, but Sony Online Entertainment, which does not have the same restrictions to Sony consoles like Sony Entertainment does. God of War, and any other Sony game, just cannot come to PC, which is a shame.
That’s completely understandable.
None of us have Dragon Age yet, which I THINK explains why we don’t talk about it. We aren’t professional game journalists that have access to every game ever. We would certainly appreciate if you could buy us all the game, then we’ll talk about it.
Don’t worry, we don’t want drama and strife.
I really wish I had the extra money to buy a 2nd copy for someone on the podcast, brilliant game and because none of you have played it, we have to take into account your GOTY cast is biased and unobjective.
So because of one game we haven’t played, our opinions are biased and unobjective. By that logic, unless one has played every single game this year, they don’t have non-bias.
Makes PERFECT sense.
You know what doesn’t make sense? why would chewbacca live on endor? endor is where the ewoks live, the little furry guys, but chewbacca is a wookiee. why would chewbacca live with ewoks? it just doesn’t make sense.
If you want coverage on Dragon Age, you know WeClock, we do occasionally publish user-written reviews…just saying.
On Dante’s Inferno, who didn’t imagine Beatrice as a super hot naked chick? Perfect recreation.
I’d love to write something up about it, but it’d require a lot of my resources and I’d try to perfect it way too much. But I’ll give it a shot anyway.
“8. Dante’s Inferno

As a direct result of the above comment, not only do I positively refuse to read the book, I’m also going to create a smear campaign on just how terrible the novel actually is.
That being said, yeah: Rufus can eat a giant dick. And really, it looks like he already has. Numerous times.
“…because none of you have played it, we have to take into account your GOTY cast is biased and unobjective.”
Uhhh… GotY, by the very DEFINITION, is biased. How the hell else would it be an opinion?? Also: pretty sure “unobjective” isn’t a word.
That’s cool, I was just playing anyway. ;D
