For that specific compilation, there's a fan patch that makes it totally playable with no CD in the drive. Check this out: Command & Patch.

I have command and conquer decades and was wondering if you could give me more info on how to put any of the games on my netbook. I am not very tech knowledgeable. i am not sure how to use Daemon Tools. I tried doing a custome install of c and c and red alert one and two to a flash drive but they want a disk when i copy them over to my netbook hard drive

Good solution if you are always around your desktop. Since writing, Daemon Tools has been updated with Windows 7 support, so that is an option for Windows 7 Netbooks as well.

If you want to play games which require the CD/DVD disc to be present, you can use NetDVD. See http://www.bluelionsoftware.co.uk

NetDVD allows you to play DVD movies, audio CDs, games and install applications on a netbook, and to burn DVDs. NetDVD adds a virtual DVD drive to your netbook, which connects to a real DVD drive on another computer on your LAN/WLAN

That's a great list for EEE users, and a good reference in general. If it is only for the EEE 701 (like the title says), people should take note that the 701 runs a ~600MHz (or 900MHz if you update the BIOS and enable the faster speed) Celeron M, which will be much slower than newer 1.6 GHz Atom chips.

It is a 1GHz Celeron with GMA900 graphics and 2GB of RAM, and HL1 was fine. This was just vanilla HL1, not HL:Source. If you are running the new G45 chipset, you will see much better gaming than GMA900 or GMA950. The G45 (GMA4500) isn't available in "Netbooks" yet as far as I know.

Lol-fucking-what?
What specs was your netbook/netbook stand-in?
My AA (Acer Aspire One) with a 1.6GHz Atom, G45 chipset at 400MHz plays HL1 in hallways at 11fps. In open spaces it's 50+. However Quake 3, Quake Live, Fallout, and Fallout 2 run fine.

If it is something you plan on owning for a while, I think it would be a good idea to at least wait and see what the new ones released for Holiday '09 will be like. It is kind of a long wait, but I suspect (wild conjecture) Windows 7 will be shipping in some special netbook form on G45 or Nvidia 9500M graphics hardware with a dual core Atom chip for around $400.

This article comes at the perfect time. I have been thinking about picking up a netbook to play a bunch of the old games I missed. I was curious about what their limitations are, but it sounds like they can handle everything I was thinking about throwing at it. I sort of want to wait for the G45 chipset, or nvidia's solution.
