My Addiction and ObsessionPosted April 28, 2009, Comments (3) |
Many of the visitors to our fine website know I have a fascination with a certain game. A fascination that some may consider to be dedicated, while others consider it an obsession. I am, of course, speaking of Crusader: No Remorse. This ancient title from Origin Systems and Electronic Arts is easily my favorite video game of all time, as it was the first PC game that I owned. I’m sure many of you can relate to loving a piece of entertainment, whether it be a film or an album, or even our beloved PC games. But more than likely, your scale of love is not like the scale that I rate my love.
Crusader is my addiction and obsession. I love the data files on this one plastic compact disc moreso than some people. I love this game so much, that when I am dead and buried, I want to share the coffin with my first copy of No Remorse. It will be added to my will first thing.
Note “first copy”. As of this writing, I own five separate copies of No Remorse. I initially began getting more copies around the time the jewel case for my original copy got a crack in it. Fearing that my disc would eventually crack, I purchased another off of eBay. And thus began my buying spree. I bought three more after that, and I plan to continue doing so in the future. At least until GOG gets it.
Not only do I own multiple copies of the game, I have an assorted collection of memorabilia for the game. I’ll let the pictures tell the story.
I also have a fairly active website dedicated to the Crusader games, which is the hub for my obsession.
No matter how much games improve in the future. No matter how technologically dated Crusader gets, it will always be my favorite game of all time. I can say this with complete certainty.
I’m not a psychologist. I have no clue why I adore this game to the point of addiction and obsession. What I do know is that I love this game more than any other. For instance: one day while I was in the eighth grade, I had brought the Crusader manual to read during study hall the next hour. A troublemaker friend of mine, in the stereotypical middle school early teens fashion, decided to mess with me by taking the manual from my hands and mockingly ripped one page. I had never punched anyone so hard before in my life.
I love this game.

You forgot to include the best picture.
I think the article image makes up for it
The title of this article is misleading. I assumed that you were writing a piece on video game addiction, something I wondered how you would handle. You should change the title to my video game addiction.
